Before you start

  • The LearnSci LTI 1.3 tool must have been preconfigured by a Canvas administrator - if you can’t find it using these instructions, please contact us and we’ll advise further.

  • Pre-existing resources added using our old tool will still work for a limited time for your reference, but it’s important that you re-add anything you wish to use using this new tool.

The LearnSci LTI 1.3 Tool can not only be used to add standalone activities and add resources to your assignments within your courses, but it can also be used to embed LearnSci content almost anywhere you can edit text, for example in page resources, or inside quiz questions, thereby allowing you to seamlessly embed the resources into your own teaching materials.

Note: This method is not suitable for embedding assessments that need to be added to your gradebook. To do that, you firstly add an assignment with the Moodle resource added to it and then link to the assignment using its URL in your text.

Adding LearnSci resources to a Canvas Page using the text editor

  1. In your Canvas course, add a new page

2. Add a page title

3.  Select app

4. Select the LSLTI13 app

5. Select the dropdown box

6. Select the course you want to add content from

7. select the LearnSci resource(s) from the content selection window. Grading is not relevant unless embedding in an assignment so you only need to tick the first checkbox for each.

8. Scroll to the bottom of the content selection window and click Add Content

The LearnSci content will appear in your page as a link, which will open the resource when the students click on it. You can continue adding any mix of your own content and LearnSci activities as needed.

9. Select Save & Publish or Save

Other applications

You can use the exact procedure above to embed resources in other places where there is a text editor available. For example you can:

  • Add LearnSci content to quiz instructions, or to individual quiz questions. For example you could:

    • embed the resource in the quiz instructions and base all of the questions in the quiz on that activity.

    • add a LabSim to the question section of a multiple choice or other question type, and have students answer based on the LabSim.

  • Add LearnSci content to a discussion topic
